Enjoyable breakfast this morning with @MarketingDerby at #MIPIM2015 #MIPIM. Representing the city.
From a Derby perspective it was our best ever year - which we put down to three factors. Firstly, the general lift in economic activity. Secondly, Derby becoming a more attractive prospect due to our investment track record. Finally, our stronger, more experienced team, ranging from the leader and chief executive of the city council, through to the head of Rolls-Royce’s global property estate.
The East Midlands has really pushed itself to the fore during 2014. We are three ambitious cities each with our own identity - each with our own success story, culture of innovation and geographical connectivity.
Derby will always have its own individual agenda - so will Nottingham and no doubt Leicester - but by working together, the East Midlands region can take on the big cities across the world.
MIPIM was definitely more vibrant this year, in that most of our meetings were with investors who clearly had the resources and were seeking partners.
